Maintenance of paint booths

Paint booths have become absolutely necessary in automotive workshops or industries where there is a painting process.

According to the painter's blog, paint booths are an indispensable element in any sheet metal and paint shop. We go further and transfer it to any painting process, be it in the automotive sector, in the industry or in encapsulates for painting boats.

The elements that the paint booth provides cannot be achieved with an outdoor painting or an unconditioned closed space, so we list the advantages of its use.

The 6 advantages of using paint booths

  • A paint booth is a closed room that retains a large part of paint particles thanks to the forced circulation of air that carries the spray residues from the guns.
  • Paint booths guarantee quality repainting.
  • Inside a paint booth, the painter works under controlled conditions that minimize occupational risks and protect his health,
  • In a paint booth you can adjust the values of temperature, humidity and air speed to the different types of paint we use.
  • Thanks to the lighting systems in the paint booths, they are as close as possible to natural light and provide the amount of light necessary for professional work.
  • Inside a paint booth the drying process can be done naturally, or accelerated with a drying system increasing the temperature.

Maintenance of a paint booth

To maintain a paint booth in perfect condition, a series of periodic maintenance of different elements is necessary for its optimal performance. We list some necessary maintenance recommended by Cesvimap:

  • Cleaning the walls. The dirt is deposited on the walls and the remains of the sprays. It is the most attractive element of the cabin and it helps to make a good impression on customers and visitors. Maintaining its white color helps to give the workshop an image of cleanliness and professionalism, as well as providing more light. It is recommended to clean every 15 days and paint every 3 months if no protection system is used. The best rated protection system is the application of an electrostatic film that is easy to apply and replace. You can see HERE the application video of the Masking Film QUICK MASK 260 Special for paint booth walls.
  • Floor grids: The metallic grids on the floor of the cabin usually finish with a coat of pulverized paint and it is recommended to clean them with pressurized water for at least every year.
  • The state of the moat. Over time, the pit accumulates a large amount of dirt, making it necessary to clean it with a vacuum cleaner annually.
  • Lamp Coating. Regular cleaning is required to prevent dust and dirt from lowering the light level.
  • The door rubbers. The rubbers ensure the tightness of the cabin, so it is necessary to check every six months that they are not damaged, which could lead to a loss in cabin pressure and therefore an increase in fuel consumption.
  • The rubbers of the extraction turbines. Annual cleaning and checking of belt tension is recommended.
  • Filter replacement. Filters are a very important element in the paint booth, as it guarantees the correct internal ventilation of the booth. Depending on the filter, its maintenance will vary. Prefilters, located at the entrance of the turbine, must be replaced after 800 hours of work. Roof filters, will be replaced at 1,200 hours of work, and soil filters they are the ones that must be changed most frequently; every 150-200 hours of work.

A paint booth is an investment for any paint shop, so it is necessary to extend its life with periodic maintenance that maintains its performance for a long time.
