Advantages of endothermic panels
We have invited Emilio Pérez, Marketing Director of Iberisa, to explain the advantages and operation of this paint drying system for body shops.
Better equipment, better processes, better returns
The body and paint workshops Today they are pushed in many directions and face pressures to reduce repair times.
This situation means that they need to work quickly and with quality finishes to increase income and face daily work.
In today's fast-paced repair environment, operating inefficiently can negatively impact these three important goals.
Selecting the right products and equipment dramatically reduces curing and surface preparation times, and enables auto body and paint repair shops to achieve their production goals while increasing profits.
Correct equipment and products to improve performance
An excellent way to increase workshop performance is by implementing new technologies and body preparation, painting and drying processes.
Working with quality products like Daevi masking range and technologies like endothermic panels, they reduce repair times and technicians can be free to work on other projects.
There is a wide range of products and equipment for the processes involved in the painting of bodies that directly affect the quality of the finishes.
When selecting a drying system for the shop, it is important to know how its technology works to obtain the maximum benefits.
Endothermic panel technology
The way in which endothermic panels Dry paint is very different from other types of systems like thermal boilers.
The panels impact directly on the bodywork and heat outwards, causing a higher quality of finish and a greater hardening of the paint.
The current enamels are completely different from previous generations and have smaller molecules that can be applied with little solvent.
When we talk about drying temperatures, we are referring to the temperature of the air in the paint booth, but not the temperature that the sheet metal of the car to be painted must reach.
This last aspect is key to having a perfect and quality finish.
The phases that take place in a paint booth can be summarized as:
- Preparation (polishing, cleaning, degreasing, ...) and masked
- Painted
- Pre-dried
- Drying
In the first 2 phases it is more difficult to quantify the cost. Processing times in them vary depending on the surface to be treated.
The pre-drying phase does not have a great impact on the total cost either, as it is present for a few minutes.
On the other hand, the drying phase is very significant and can be easily quantified.
Traditional drying systems are based on the convection principle in which a gas or diesel burner heats a boiler that heats the air as it passes through the vehicle and out into the atmosphere.
This has performance losses due to the form of heat transfer.
The panels use the radiation principle, which transfers the energy in a single step and heats the sheet first and this transmits the heat to the layers of paint. This reduces losses and improves the finish.
Not only that, assuming that a installation with endothermic panels It is working one hour, we will have costs of € 4.2 / h (consumption: 30kW / h, price: 0.14 kW / h).
With traditional methods, the approximate cost would be € 16 for diesel installations and € 8 for gas installations.
But the advantage in this technology is that the panels do not need to be an hour for drying, nor are they constantly working (due to its control system, it activates and deactivates the system when the desired temperature is reached).
You can save between 20 and 30 minutes compared to a traditional system.
This means that the estimated cost for drying is € 3.5, which is a great economic and ecological saving since we will not have to burn fossil fuels.
Some of the advantages of an endothermic panel system
- Reduces work times.
- Improvements in finishes and paint hardening.
- Control of all cycles through a PLC system.
- Economic savings.
- It can be installed on any paint booth.
- Environmentally friendly.
Conclusions
It is clear that working with the latest products and technology is essential to improve operating times in mechanical workshops.
Today finishing jobs quickly and improving qualities is key to maintaining the demands of clients and insurers.
Protection of paint booth walls
Don't forget to protect the cabin walls with the Protector Film 260 Quick Mask® that facilitates the application and removal of the protection, keeping the walls clean as the first day.
It is compatible with the endothermic panel drying system, since the heat from the panels does not transfer to the walls, but be careful not to touch the surface of the panel. This reaches temperatures of 180º and could harm the film.
To protect endothermic panels, ask us. There are specific protection products for these surfaces.
