The basic masking in 3 steps
One of the longest processes when painting a car is the masking process.
It is a time that must be invested in order to guarantee that during painting no pulverized paint enters any area that damages the painted finish.
In addition to doing a good job of masking, we must ensure that we are working with the best products, otherwise we can see that when removing all the material used during masking, problems such as: paint chips between layers, painted rubbers or residue of adhesive on the surface. This results in subsequent touch-ups that can make a good painting job unnoticeable.
Therefore, we must take into account 2 premises that will guarantee the success of a good finish:
- Having the appropriate skills and techniques throughout the process (sanding, masking, painting ...)
- Have quality paint consumables and attachments that help to obtain a quality result.
At Daevi, as expert manufacturers in masking and temporary protection products, we help you with a brief guide of 3 basic steps to perform a good masking:
The basic masking in 3 steps
To achieve a good masking, it is necessary to follow this procedure and thus achieve the best results.
Once the vehicle is cleaned, we will introduce it into the paint booth to ensure that during the masking process there are no contaminating agents that settle on the body or other elements
1. First of all we will protect the joints and openings of the vehicle: door frames, boot, hood, etc ... For this we recommend using Daevi adhesive strip into these openings to prevent paint from entering during spray application. The professional must assess the width of the weatherstrip to be used, 13mm (3320013) for narrow joints or 19mm (3320019) for wider joints.
This foam weatherstrip allows you to close the openings of the vehicle allowing the sprayed paint to enter in a blurred way to avoid appreciating the cut.
2. There are elements that cannot be removed during the painting process, such as window rubbers or lights. To protect these elements it is necessary to use a special tape called Daevi Rubber Lifting Tape which helps us to separate the rubbers from the surface to be painted, to prevent the paint from accumulating and also stain the rubber.
This tape is composed of a rigid plastic part that must be inserted between the rubber and the surface, the adhesive paper tape part will serve to stretch the rubber and separate it sufficiently from the surface to allow the sprayed paint to enter without staining the rubber.
3. Lastly we will mask all the surfaces of the vehicle that should not be painted, such as the bodywork and the windows. For this we will use the Daevi Quick Mask® Plastic Tape Protector to save time and make sure we get a quality finish.
This film has special technical specifications that allow significant time savings, since it does not need cutting tools. further It is the only plastic roll with tape that is manufactured with right or left opening. This differential fact, in addition to providing comfort to the painter (either right-handed or left-handed), helps to mask areas of difficult access.
The wide range of measurements also allows us to save material depending on the area to be masked. For large surfaces you can use the measures 260,180, 120 or 100cm wide, and for smaller surfaces measures such as 60, 35 or 20cm wide.
For the smallest areas, such as pilots, insignia, etc ... we can use the Daevi Bodybuilder Tape in its variety of widths: 18, 24, 36 or 48mm.
Following these 3 easy steps during masking process You will get better results that will help you obtain a perfect finish.
