Mobile World Congress 2018 trends and applications

You already know that at Daevi we are very restless, and we like to know first-hand the market trends to be able to adapt in the best way and thus be able to improve processes that have an impact on the satisfaction of our customers and partners.

That is why we bring you our particular vision of the trends in technology that we have found in the Mobile World Congress 2018.

We wanted to take advantage of the tour that PIMEC has given us, to know what is the present of technology, because soon it will be something necessary to be able to operate at all levels.

What remarkable trends have we encountered at the Mobile World Congress?

Although there are innumerable brands and companies represented in this Mundial CongressWe have made an extract of what, in our opinion, are the most interesting for sectors such as nauticalautomotive or industry; the sectors in which Daevi is present.

  • 5G technology. This 5th generation provides an extraordinarily high speed that helps transmit data and images in real time and with high quality. This technology promoted by Cisco IoT was explained to us at their booth, with application examples from road lighting depending on environmental conditions to the transmission of images in real time without cuts, through very small devices that make life easier.

Companies like SEAT, they want to promote the use of 5G, exploring collaboration with Barcelona City Council (the 5th most innovative European city and the 13th in the world) to turn the city into the European testing center for this new generation of connection that they consider the key to the connected car. They are already working on the prototype of the car connected with this technology that will be released in 2019 in Barcelona.

These technologies that enhance connectivity are also compatible with the nautical, energy, industrial, security sector ... without going any further, Vodafone presented at the MWC the new NB-IoT technology that shows the boat connectivity monitoring the condition of the engine, maintenance work and detecting alarms of the waterway to prevent incidents. He also taught a wide variety of multi-sensors that help meet quality and environmental regulations (UV rays sensors, harmful particle detectors, sensors that monitor cold chains ...).

One of the exhibitors we visited was Korean Telecom where they showed us the difference between 4G and 5G, so that we could understand it in a very visual way.

A metal ball is thrown through a plastic tube and the camera that captures the ball's path is retransmitted in real time on a screen: one using 4G technology and the other using 5G technology. Look the following video:

In the 4G broadcast the ball's trajectory is choppy, in the 5G, it looks perfectly as if we were seeing it live, without cuts between frames. This is possible thanks to the first 5G antenna that was installed in Congress on the occasion of the MWC.

  • The autonomous car. The connected vehicle is a reaility that every day launches new improvements in its system. The Turkcell company showed us the advantages of the inclusion of devices in the vehicle where the 5G data transmission guarantees safety elements such as automatic braking if the driver blinks too much.

  • Virtual reality. Companies like Fraunhofer or Visyon taught us how virtual reality can help us get closer to an immersive 360º reality. This technology, in addition to teleporting us in the most real way to any scenario, can help the industry with a exact product traceability, finding faults or possible innovations in the process that improve the productive phase.

Despite the fact that these latest technologies are generally attributed to leisure and entertainment sectors, the fact of knowing how far the reach of new generations in innovation, brings us a little closer to the usability in industrial or commercial sectors.

The capacity of manage large amounts of data almost immediately, it brings us to the table a world of opportunities to get to know the customer, partner or even our own product or service better.

We could summarize that this Mobile World Congress He has introduced us to the incredible world of Connectivity and the potential for managing large amounts of data, something that looks like the future, but that we already have in the present. Companies will be able to adapt these technologies to their needs in industrial, commercial, marketing or customer service processes.
